Job Description

Highways England is currently recruiting for a Traffic Technology Team Leader to be based in Bedford, Birmingham, Bristol, Guildford, Leeds or Manchester.

You will lead a Service Operations team within Traffic Technology in IT, to identify and exploit opportunities for the enhancement and innovation of technology aligned to business need, identify and exploit opportunities for change.

Key Responsibilities

  • As part of the Traffic Technology Management team, contribute to the leadership and management of the Traffic Technology function, taking responsibility for delivery and people issues, occasionally standing in for the Group Leader.
  • Lead investigations into issues with performance of traffic technology systems and products to ensure performance is optimised and service maintained.
  • As Traffic Technology Team leader to deliver, manage and maintain traffic technology solutions on the strategic road network.
  • Identify, investigate and exploit opportunities for the enhancement and innovation of technological solutions to meet Highways England objectives and drive continuous improvement in services delivered to the customer.
  • Deliver projects or programmes with a strong understanding of both project management methodologies, change and risk management, specifically the impact  in terms of finance and resources.
  • Ensure strategic alignment of the team’s objectives to Highways England strategy, promote a positive delivery oriented culture and seek opportunities for continuing professional development for all staff.
  • Ensure adherence to financial governance regimes and compliance with contractual delivery mechanisms and targets to protect Highways England’s assets, deliver value for money and identify efficiency savings.

Experience, Skills & Qualifications

  • Demonstrable understanding of or experience in a relevant technical area: electrical engineering, telecommunications, Traffic Technology, computer systems or related technologies.
  • ITILv3 or experience of working in a service management environment.
  • Experience of leading a team or teams in an engineering or commercial environment.
  • Experience of successfully managing a range of projects and the ability to work within a programme management discipline (Manging Successful Programmes (MSP) or equivalent) in whole life support services in a real time operational environment, or in the research and development of traffic management systems. 
  • Experience of Stakeholder Management, IT Management and Service Management.
