Job Description

We are seeking applications from  candidates with highways drainage or stormwater management experience to join us as a Technical Content Specialist in our Environment Group within Professional Technical Solutions (PTS), based in our Bristol, Guildford, Bedford, Birmingham, Manchester, or Leeds offices.

 

PTS is responsible for supporting the operational delivery of our road network by developing standards, policy & methodologies, as well as providing technical advice to those areas of the company responsible for delivery.

 

As part of PTS, the Environment Group supports us in achieving high performance in the environmental, sustainability, climate change mitigation and adaptation, and social responsibility (including equality and diversity) aspects of our work. This is achieved through the development of policy and the provision of advice and guidance, and especially the development of truly collaborative partnerships with both internal colleagues and external stakeholders.

 

This is an exceptional opportunity for you to further your professional profile by gaining unique and varied experience in all aspects of highways drainage. In this role as Technical Content Specialist, you will review and update the Design Manual for Roads & Bridges (DMRB) supporting us in ensuring that all activity on our network is delivered in a manner that does not harm the environment; but instead delivers long term benefits to the natural and built environment, creating a sustainable future for all. This will directly support organisation objectives including delivering better environmental outcomes, and you’ll play a key role in ensuring Highways England’s Drainage Advice in the DMRB Volume 4 offers good environmental design, legislative and policy compliance, as well as value for money.

Essential:

  • A degree in a relevant engineering or environmental technical discipline with a strong emphasis on drainage or water engineering. eg BEng, BSc, BA, HND/HNC Foundation Degree.
  • Excellent written skills in the provision of advice and guidance to Technical Specialists regarding the translation of complex subject matter into clear and understandable written information
  • Demonstrable evidence of experience of imparting knowledge in order to grow others understanding of complex issues

 

Desirable:
 

  • Experience of designing and developing drainage policy documents or standards.
  • Experience of collaborating with a broad range of stakeholders and lead a shared way forward where views / perspectives may differ.
  • Experience of providing information and advice on developing technical documents to a range of internal and external stakeholders .
  • Ability to demonstrate/explain the implications of legislation and articulate best practice in policy development
  • Understanding and demonstrable evidence of using the Design Manual for Roads & Bridges Volume 4.
  • Relevant professional membership IHE, CIWEM, ICE or IHT.
  • Relevant Project Management qualification, and experience of working in a structured project management environment delivering successful projects and managing a range of demands
  • Knowledge and experience of :
  • Construction Product Regulation, Low Voltage Directive and/or the Electro-Mechanical Compatibility Directive
  • Public Procurement Directive and the Public Contract Regulations 2015
  • Technical Standards and Regulations Directive


Interviews will take place on 20th & 21st Feburary in Birmingham and you will be informed by 10th February if you have been successful in being shortlisted for interview
