Job Description

With around 4,500 staff spread across seven offices and a uniformed Traffic Officer Service, we need a strong Head of Internal Communications with the vision and skills to bring the organisation together at a time of rapid growth and change.

It’s a chance to redefine the internal communications strategy of a national infrastructure organisation that is relied upon by the entire country. You’ll need significant experience of internal communications leadership and team development to rise to the challenge.

Day to day

  • You’ll develop and implement an internal communications strategy that will bring together the diverse staff groups that make up Highways England
  • You’ll provide expert advice on important and at times sensitive announcements to senior leaders
  • You’ll work closely with colleagues across Communications to align internal and external communications
  • You’ll set clear and challenging objectives for your team of five and give them the opportunity, support and encouragement to flourish
  • You’ll evaluate internal communications strategies and use the insight to shape future communications
  • We’ve got a challenging Roads Investment Programme to deliver across the country and your leadership and vision will play a key role in ensuring we rise to the challenge as a united workforce

About you

  • Extensive experience of internal communications leadership and strategy development
  • The ability to inspire, motivate and develop a team to achieve successful outcomes
  • Gravitas, confidence and experience to give authoritative and trustworthy advice to senior leaders
  • Internal communications qualification (desired)
