Highways England is the new government owned company responsible for driving forward our motorways and major A roads. This includes; modernising and maintaining the highways, running the network and keeping traffic moving. Over recent years, investment in our highways has increased. This has led to advances in technology, such as smart motorways; enabling traffic to flow better. However, even more is yet to be done.
Certainty of funding and greater flexibility will enable us to become a better business. In our first 5 years alone, we’ll invest £11 billion in motorways and A roads – boosting capacity, tackling congestion and improving safety. At the same time, we’ll improve how we work. We are recruiting for Three Cost Engineers to join our Cost Planning team, in a nationwide campaign at a choice of locations including Guildford, Bedford, Birmingham within the Commercial Services Division
Commercial Services Division provides the contract formulation, cost estimating, contract management and risk & resolution management that enable Highways England to commercially act as an intelligent client. The team develops commercial models that drive the supply chain behaviours required to deliver the Business Plan objectives, and supports project teams in estimating, negotiating costs, managing performance, administering contracts and resolving disputes from a position of strength. That strength is built upon experienced and professional staff, commercial intelligence, structured data, consistent and validated methodology and numerate and objective performance reporting. These services are coordinated by Commercial and Performance managers supporting Clients in each region, building on the central teams based mainly in Birmingham.
Using your skills and knowledge within cost engineering, , you will provide valuable support to the Estimating Manager in ensuring appropriate governance arrangements are maintained in supporting our objective to deliver value for money.
Drawing on your strong expertise, you will be a source of advice on all cost planning matters, contributing to the development of a process improvement approach and improving the capability of the Cost Engineering function and commercial expertise of the business.
In the day to day, your role will involve auditing, developing and challenging estimates received and developing commercial tools and approaches to improve feedback and data. You will also have the opportunity to share your expertise in leading and mentoring our Assistant Cost Engineers.
