Job Description

The Professional and Technical Solutions Directorate is responsible for supporting the operational delivery of Highways England’s road network by developing standards and guidance, as well as providing specialist technical advice to both internal and external parties. The Directorate also includes business-wide services for Health and Safety and Communications.

The Operational Development Division deliver a portfolio of complex national programmes and projects that support the safe operation, maintenance and modernisation of the national strategic road network including delivery of research, standards and technical advice.

The Asset and Operational Development and Safer Roads Groups develop and embed policy, requirements, advice and techniques to improve the operational performance of the strategic road network with particular emphasis on delivery of routine maintenance, severe weather, incidents, roadworks, safety risk, cyclists, and influencing behavioural change in road users.

The role

  • Provide flexible business support, as may be required to contribute towards delivery of    projects and service to time, quality and within budget.
  • To develop engineering knowledge and experience to contribute to achieving the ICE member attributes.
  • To develop project management skills

Day to day

  • Support Project Managers in delivering projects.
  • Assist in developing new requirements and standards.Assist with the embedment of new requirements and standards.
  • Manage own work according to business need, ensuring accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Collect, retrieve and collate data through effective liaison.
  • Contribute to an engaged, efficient team.
  • Accept personal responsibility for safety of self and others, reporting unsafe conditions and near miss incidents.

About you

  • An Civil Engineering Undergraduate
  • Ability to use office software products to contribute to production/maintenance of a range of documents and spreadsheets
  • Ability to work effectively with others in an office environment or delivering an efficient customer service.
