Job Description

As Assistant Project Manager you will provide an effective, proactive and supportive interface to the individual project teams in the region to help ensure that external and internal knowledge is cascaded and issues and experience from the region is escalated as necessary.

Be an active member of a specialist and industry-leading team within Highways England supporting individual project teams to manage their scheme’s diversions and protection works.

Day to Day:

  • Support Learning and Development in the deployment of training activities, including workshops, across Highways England focused on the statutory undertakers and the NRSWA processes
  • Managing and Improving Knowledge Management Systems
  • Maintain a plan identifying the programme and complexity of schemes in the region that will require statutory undertakers’ diversions or protection works, and work with the other SU Champions to get and maintain a national picture.
  • Attend scheme local HAUC meetings where necessary.
  • Attend regional HAUC / Statutory Liaison meetings where necessary and ensure relevant information is fed in as appropriate.
  • Adhere to a culture of good record keeping and continuous improvement and of a programme approach to delivery
  • Quality Assurances Services
  • Support the review of scheme NRSWA C2 – C9 processes, dependent on resource availability, likely to be focused on checking their format, scope and specific sections of concern.
  • Contract Management
  • Cascade, share and appropriately store advice obtained on Highways England knowledge management so that it can be used across Highways England.
  • Support scheme delivery of statutory undertakers’ diversions, protection works and other stakeholder works agreements within the region.
  • Support the Programme Office and Regional Risk Manager to actively manage scheme risks associated to statutory undertakers’ diversions, protection works and other works agreements.
  • Complete the on-the-job training and other development activities required, including attendance at appropriate training, conferences, seminars and public examinations, to maintain up-to-date specialist knowledge of NRSWA related legislation, guidance, advice, processes and case / best practice.
  • Share new knowledge with other team members.
  • Health and Safety
  • By working closely with project delivery teams and statutory undertakers and other key stakeholders check that the risk associated with working close to buried and above ground apparatus are being managed and controlled.

About you: 

•           Knowledge and understanding of utility construction activities across main disciplines including water, gas and electricity

•           Demonstrable ability to form and develop positive, helpful, responsive and supportive relationships with individual project teams  

•           Excellent written skills, including capability to draft clear procedures and templates for use across projects together with advice tailored to individual schemes
