The Professional and Technical Solutions (PTS) Directorate is responsible for supporting the operational delivery of Highways England’s road network by developing standards and guidance, as well as providing specialist technical advice to both internal and external parties. The Directorate also includes business-wide services for Health and Safety and Communications.
The Operational Development Division deliver a portfolio of complex national programmes and projects that support the safe operation, maintenance and modernisation of the national strategic road network including delivery of research, standards and technical advice.
The Asset and Operational Development Group develops and embeds policy, requirements, advice and techniques to improve the operational performance of the strategic road network with particular emphasis on delivery of routine maintenance, severe weather, incidents, smart roads, roadworks and safety risk.
Highways England is currently recruiting for an Assistant Policy Manager to be based in the Birmingham or Bristol offices.
Please note this role is a 12 Month Fixed Term/Secondment Opportunity.
The Roadworks Requirements and Solutions team is responsible for developing and embedding solutions to continually improve customer satisfaction around roadworks management and minimise delays.
The team owns the network occupancy processes and requirements which promote maximising lane availability and optimising the use of lane closures so as the impact on our customers is minimised.
You will promote development of improved customer service through designing and delivering policy, standards and guidance whilst defining and developing a portfolio of projects which support the development of a safe and reliable network.
Deliver the agreed projects to time, quality and cost, establishing appropriate governance and identifying and securing suitable resource.
Achieve improvements in the delivery of maintenance, operation and improvement of the Strategic Road Network.
Guide and direct specialist support to achieve Highways England objectives, advising and working with a range of internal customers and external suppliers.
Finally, build effective relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, influence across boundaries and inform policy making.
