I have searched through your available jobs but I can’t find a suitable role. Can I send you a speculative application?

We encourage candidates to apply for specific jobs rather than applying speculatively. Alternatively you can set up a job alert so that we can email you directly with roles according to your specific criteria. To do this register as a candidate here.

Can I send you my CV in the post?

Unfortunately not, we only accept applications submitted via our website.

Will you hold my details on file?

Yes, with your permission, but the best way to keep up to date is to keep checking our website for new opportunities.

Can you tell me when new jobs are available?

You can set up a job alert here. We will then email you roles according to your specific criteria.

I have forgotten my password, what do I do?

Simply go to this page, enter your email address in the box on the recruitment homepage and we will email you your password.

My details have changed since I applied. How do I update my application?

Make sure that we have your most up to date contact details by logging in here and amending them if necessary. Remember, our primary method for contacting you is by email, so if we don’t have your correct email address then we won’t be able to get in touch. Please also ensure that you provide us with an up to date telephone contact number. If you have changed your name please contact us via and we will update your details.

What happens if I miss the closing date?

Unfortunately we can’t accept any applications for a job after the closing date has passed.

Can I apply for more than one vacancy?

You may apply for multiple posts, but you need to do so individually; however you must meet the criteria of each of the posts, as detailed in the job specifications.

I have a criminal conviction, am I still eligible to work for you?

All offers of employment made by Highways England are subject to a basic disclosure or an enhanced Criminal Records Check, dependent upon the position applied for. We look at any history of criminal convictions carefully. The nature of the conviction will be assessed on a post by post and applicant by applicant basis

Can I apply if I don’t have a work permit?

No. You must have a valid work permit if you are not British citizen or an EEA citizen or a Swiss national to work within Highways England. It is your responsibility to provide evidence of the work permit in line with current Home Office guidelines. Unfortunately we are unable to employ anyone who doesn’t have the right to work in the UK or to sponsor work permits.

Will I need to do any tests during the application process?

If there are to be any tests or assessments exercises during the interview the Recruitment Team will let you know in advance. For many roles we use online tests that are specific to the vacancy. The tests are short and full instructions are provided for you on screen or by the assessor.

I have a disability and have certain requirements to enable me to attend an interview. Would I still be considered?
